Foreign Minister Nyanti Launches βKapa Kulonoβ Town Hall Initiative --Emphasizing Smart Spending and Inclusive Growth
Liberiaβs Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Sara Beysolow Nyanti, has officially launched the Government Town Hall Initiative under the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), styled βKapa Kulonoβ a Kpelleh phrase meaning βCome Letβs Talk It.β The launch took place under the theme: βSmart Spending, Shared Growth: Building an Inclusive Liberia Under the AAID,β held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the EJS Ministerial Complex. In her keynote and launching remarks during the ceremony, Foreign Minister Nyanti emphasized the importance of engaging in development discourse devoid of political undertones. βWe must learn how to talk about developmental issues without politicizing them. Social and economic challenges do not recognize political parties. They affect all Liberians equally,β she said.
Foreign Minister Nyanti reiterated that the AAID (ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development) is a people-centered, inclusive policy framework designed to reach Liberians at all levels. βThe AAID is not just a document on paper. It is a commitment to ensure that every Liberian whether in the city or in the most remote village feels seen, heard, and included in the national conversation,β Foreign Minister Nyanti added. Foreign Minister Nyanti highlighted the need to shape domestic policy in ways that influence and inform Liberiaβs foreign policy direction. The Dean of the Cabinet further underscored the Boakai-led governmentβs determination to take governance to the people. βThis administration will not wait for people to come to government. Instead, we will go to them to listen, to learn, and to lead together,β Foreign Minister Nyanti declared.
She applauded the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism for conceptualizing and spearheading the βKapa Kulonoβ initiative. βI commend MICAT for this meaningful platform. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stands ready to support this initiative to the fullest, as it aligns with our shared values of inclusion, accountability, and participatory governance,β Foreign Minister Nyanti stated. Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Information, Hon. Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, provided insight into the purpose of Kapa Kulono. βThis is more than a town hall; it is a national dialogue. Kapa Kulono is about coming together government and citizens to discuss how we move Liberia forward. It is an invitation to every Liberian to have a seat at the table,β Minister Piah said. According to him, the town hall series will rotate across the countryβs 15 counties, giving ordinary citizens a platform to engage directly with government officials, share their concerns, offer solutions, and receive updates on national policies and development efforts.
The launch of Kapa Kulono marks a significant milestone in the Boakai administrationβs pursuit of inclusive governance and effective public service delivery. By fostering honest and constructive dialogue, the government hopes to bridge gaps, rebuild trust, and ensure that development is not only top-down but also community-driven. The initiative is part of the Boakai administrationβs broader agenda to deepen democratic engagement and ensure the active participation of citizens in national development. It aims to bring government closer to the people, promoting dialogue and transparency around public policies and programs.
