Zorzor, Lofa County, August 7,2025: The Minister of Internal Affairs, Honorable Francis Sakila Nyumalin has suspended two local government officials of Lofa County with immediate effect, for actions linked to the violation of a Moratorium placed on the practice of sande activities in Liberia.
The two suspended local officials are Mr. James Tarnue, Paramount Chief of Lorma Chiefdom, and Mr. Bigboy Kokulo, Clan Chief of Zeyeama Clan, both of Zorzor District.
A press release issued by the Internal Affairs Ministry says during an investigative meeting held in Zorzor Thursday, August 7th, Minister Nyumalin blasted the two for being complicit and for taking no action while Zoes and other traditional leaders in ten communities under their jurisdictions openly violate the established government-backed policy of the National Council of Chiefs.
A preliminary assessment conducted by the MIA revealed that contrary to the temporary ban on the operations of Sande or "Bush Schools," certain individuals have in violation for personal and economic gains.
The Internal Ministry release quotes Minister Nyumalin as saying the Ministry will hold local officials personally responsible for not enforcing laws and regulations within their assigned places.
Meanwhile, the Minister says the suspension remains enforced pending finalisation of the ongoing investigation, warning that no one is above law and will not entertain lawlessness under the disguise of much cherished cultures and traditions of Liberia.
