During the meeting in Washington, D.C., President Boakai held warm and substantive discussions with Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, United States Representative for New York’s Fifth Congressional District and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The engagement formed part of President Boakai’s broader mission to deepen Liberia’s diplomatic relations, attract greater trade and investment, and secure stronger international partnerships that can support the country’s development.
President Boakai outlined his Administration’s commitment to democratic governance, peace and security, economic transformation, energy, infrastructure development and expanded opportunities for the Liberian people.
He emphasized that Liberia’s years of peace and political stability must now produce visible improvements in the lives of its citizens through job creation, stronger institutions, increased investment and sustainable national development.
The discussions also featured Liberia’s role as a member of the United Nations Security Council for 2026–2027 and the need for continued Liberia–U.S. cooperation in promoting regional peace, global security and multilateral diplomacy.
President Boakai’s meeting with Congressman Meeks was particularly significant considering the congressman’s extensive experience in foreign policy, international partnerships, and economic development. Congressman Meeks currently serves as Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee.
The meeting reaffirmed the deep historical ties between Liberia and the United States while creating an opportunity to move the relationship toward practical cooperation in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, security, and institutional development.
President Boakai was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister and Dean of the Cabinet Sara Beysolow Nyanti; Minister Without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility; National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods; Director General of the Cabinet Nathaniel T. Kwabo; and Executive Assistant to the President Morie Nemah.
As President Boakai continues his engagements in the United States, his message remains clear that Liberia values its historic friendship with the United States, but the relationship must continue to grow into a stronger development partnership that delivers meaningful and lasting benefits for the people of both nations.
