Monrovia, May 5, 2025 โ Liberiaโs Transport Minister, Honorable Sirleaf Ralph Tyler, has described aviation as the gateway to national development, emphasizing the critical role the sector plays in connecting people, driving economic growth, and enhancing global competitiveness. He made the statement on Monday, May 5, during a high-profile event marking the commencement of Aviation Awareness Week organized by the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia.
The occasion brought together diplomats from across the African continent, aviation professionals, and key government officials, all gathered under the theme of elevating Liberiaโs air transport sector and showcasing its potential to contribute meaningfully to national progress.
In his keynote address, Minister Tyler passionately called on His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to declare Liberiaโs aviation sector a *national emergency*, citing the urgent need for investment, modernization, and strategic development.
โAviation is not just about planes and airports. It is about connectivity, trade, tourism, and national security. If we invest in aviation, we are investing in Liberiaโs future,โ Minister Tyler stated. โDeclaring aviation a national emergency will fast-track development initiatives and position Liberia as a major aviation hub not only in West Africa but across the continent and beyond.โ
Minister Tyler stressed that strategic investment in airport infrastructure, human capital, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks will attract international airlines, boost domestic travel, and unlock new economic corridors. He underscored that improved aviation can transform Liberiaโs image, drive tourism, enhance foreign direct investment, and promote regional integration.
The Ministerโs bold appeal to the President received a resounding response from attendees, many of whom echoed the need for urgent reform and modernization in Liberiaโs air transport system.
