Government Rejects Misused of Diplomatic Pouch

The Liberian Government has sharply reacted and denounced misleading claims that its diplomatic pouch is under investigation or was used in connection with the recent narcotics seizure being investigated by the joint Security Task Force. Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah categorically rejects the claims as false, baseless, and entirely unsupported by any facts. Minister Piah said there is no investigation involving Liberia's diplomatic pouch system or any evidence whatsoever linking its diplomatic pouch services to narcotics trafficking.

The Information Minister said that to associate Liberia's diplomatic pounch system with the ongoing investigation is absurd, irresponsible, misleading and intended to create confusion, while the matter is under active investigation by competent authorities. He spoke at the Ministry of Information's regular press briefing held Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Minister Piah said Liberia's diplomatic pouch is exclusively used for the transmission of official government correspondence, communication and documents to its Embassies, consulates and permanent Missions aboard, under the Geneva convention. "International deliveries are transported through courier and postal services, while local dispatches are delivered through designated dispatch personnel," the Minister said.

The Information Minister said the system is governed by strict international protocols and procedures and does not transport even liquid or other unauthorized substances. Minister Piah restated President Joseph N. Boakai assurance to Liberians and international partners that all matters connected to the investigation of the US$19m cocaine seizure will be pursued thoroughly and impartially in accordance with the laws of Liberia.

Minister Piah said the investigation into the drug seizure will not be undermined and that all those culpable will be made to face the full force of the law. Minister Piah said government is committed to dismantling the drugs catel and never to use Liberia as hub for the trafficking of drugs or illicit substances.
