Liberia’s Ministry of Justice today, August 12, 2025 rolled-out cycle -2 of the "Responsible Citizens Justice Program", an initiative birthed by the Attorney General of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh to empower high school and university students to become advocates of justice, accountability, and take  on civic responsibility in their various communities, schools, churches and mosques.

A vibrant ceremony was held in the Ministry’s 6th Floor Conference Room where, Acting Justice Minister, Cllr. Cora N. Hare Konuwa,  called to action the 42 students who were successful after a thorough vetting process from various institutions across the country.

"This is not just another youth program. This is a movement — a national call to conscience," said Minister Konuwa. "We are not only training you to understand the justice system, but to live it, to speak for it, and to lead others by example."

The "Responsible Citizens Justice Program" is part of the Ministry’s broader push to promote a citizen-centered initiative that will instill democratic values at the grassroots level. Through peer education, community outreach as well as mentorship from legal and other law enforcement professionals, the Justice Ambassadors will gain first-hand exposure to the workings of the justice system in Liberia while learning how to stand up against corruption, violence, and discrimination.

The Program Coordinator, Atty. Abigail T. Gbessagee in her presentation described, the selection process as vigorous and transparent; urging those selected to demonstrate excellence during the month- long training and mentorship program with the Ministry of Justice.

Speaking earlier, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Justice, Atty. Siafa Bahn Kemokai said, the program, a brainchild of Minister Tweh, is intended to help students mitigate conflicts, be accountable, respect the rule of law and become responsible citizens in their respective communities.

The ceremony was graced by LIS Commissioner General, Hon. Elijah F. Rufus with other high ranking officials making remarks on behalf of the Civil Service Agency, Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Liberia National Police, Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency  while expressing their commitments to mentor some of these students at their respective institutions ; and the parents and guardians of the students.
