IN THE U.S., PRESIDENT BOAKAI INITIATES TALKS FOR DELTA AIRLINES TO RESUME LIBERIA’S FLIGHTS

(Monrovia, Friday, May 17, 2024) :- As part of the outcomes of the recent visit of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to the United States of America to attend the 16th US-Africa Business Summit, the President visited Atlanta, Georgia and started negotiations for the resumption of direct Delta Airlines flights to and from Liberia.

Delta Airlines added Liberia to its direct flights to Africa in September 2010 and became active along with Liberia’s air route up to August 31, 2014 when the American airliner cancelled its flights to Liberia.

A press release from Ms. Cynthia L. Blandford, former Honorary Consul Republic of Liberia, Editor-in-Chief of International Focus (iF) Magazine and President and CEO of the University Consortium for Liberia (UCL), who organized the President’s visit to Atlanta, said there are many benefits of air travel services to boost the Government of Liberia’s development agenda.

“With Tourism being a part of the President of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda [Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation and Tourism], air travel services will be key to helping to promote two-way trade, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and tourism in support of Liberia’s budding surfing industry, historical and cultural sites, lush rain forests, biodiversity, hiking, fishing and sun and fun on the beautiful beaches of Liberia”, a statement said.
