Criminal Court ‘D’ at the Temple Justice Tuesday morning temporarily released 23 pretrial detainees on bail from the Monrovia Central Prison.
The court bailed Alieu Fosene, Fred Blay, Bioma Gaway, Bill Mensah, Charles Gray, Rahim Affarge, Alison Wowah, Austin Tarr, Anthony Togba and Junior Sayee. Others are Junior Toe, Jacob Kanneh, Andrew Cooper, Emmanuel Kenndy, Emmanuel Koffi, Fatumah Ray, Jerry Kamara, Matthew Green and Michael Harris. The rest are Mohammed Donzo, Kollie Jallah, Junior Joseph, Berry Gontee, Junior Cooper, Kelvin Wolo, Kegan Taarreh and Daddy Boy Gongbaye.
The release of the 13 came after their lawyers filed a 16-count motion to Judge Sikajipo Wollor.
The suspects’ lawyers informed Criminal Court ‘D’ that they were arrested for alleged armed robbery and placed behind bar without an indictment.
The Defense lead lawyer, Momolu Kardika said the absence of an indictment against the defendants as well as prolong detention after two court terms was a violation of their right as provided by law.
The suspects’ lawyers referenced Sections 13.7 and 18.2 of the Criminal Procedure Law on bails and prolong detention.
But most of the defendants had been behind bar for more than seven years without trial.
Judge Wollor ordered that a criminal appearance bond or cash bond be made to the court to ensure the safety of the defendants, while they are temporary released to their relatives.
