The Liberia National Student Union (LINSU) has announced the holding of its 3rd postwar congress s following months of deadlock.
LINSU congress came to a standstill after some aggrieved members took the institution to court, claiming that their institutions have been denied participation in the election of the its national executive committee.
The co-chairman of LINSU Congress preparatory committee, Boima Kiazolu, said the institution had honored the Civil Law Court’s order mandating them to open the process to all candidates who claimed they were denied.
“The congress preparatory committee of LINSU is pleased to inform you that consistent with the ruling of the Civil Law Court, individuals claiming nomination have formally included these individuals to participate in the upcoming congress,” said Kiazolu in a statement.
Candidates qualified to contest in the upcoming congress according to Kiazolu include, Charles Nagbe , nominate by the University of Liberia for the position of financial secretary; Abraham Johnson, also nominated by the University of Liberia and Johnny White for the secretary general position, nominated from Tubman University also for the secretary general position .
Contesting the vice president for international affairs are Emmanuel Flomo, nominated by the Tubman University and Prince Teahjay , nominated by Smythe Institute of management and Technology . Bill McGill Jones was nominated by the Cuttington University and Matthias Mahnboe Yeanay by the AME Zion University for the position of vice president.
Qualified candidates for the president position include Varney Jersey, nominated by the Tubman University, Smythe Institute of Management and Technology and the AME Zion University; while Kansualism Kansuah was nominated by the United Methodist University .
Kiazolu said the communication contenting the names of qualified candidates had been communicated to all universities.
“The 3rd postwar congress preparatory committee of the Liberia National Student Union is again pleased to inform all constituent member -institutions of LINSU , stakeholders , invited guest and the general public the 13th and 14th of February 2015 remain dates to conduct the 3rd post war congress activities,” Said Kiazolu
He said the program will be held under the theme, “keeping our mandate, sustaining the cause and re-aligning the student struggle with contemporary time”
