MONROVIA, February 6 (LINA) – Local fuel importer Aminata and Sons has signed an over US$90 million contract with Aureus Mining Incorporated (Bea Mountain Mining Group) for the supply of petroleum products.
The contract covers the supply of fuel products for the duration of the mining operations.
Mr. Debar Allen of Aureus Mining said his firm selected Aminata because it meets the standard and has demonstrated the capacity to deliver more than any of its competitors in the sector.
The Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy, Patrick Sandolo; CEO of Aminata and Sons, Siaka Toure; United Bank of Africa (UBA) Managing Director Chioma Mang and acting Commerce Minister Cyril Allen Jr. made remarks at the formal signing ceremony of the “landmark contract” Friday.
Aminata and Sons is the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company “Biggest Liberian Importer of Petroleum Product”.
The signing of the agreement comes in the wake of calls by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for downstream linkages between large concessions and Liberian businesses for more impact on the people.
Liberian businesses have themselves been calling for foreign direct investments to trickle down to local entrepreneurs to strengthen their role in building the national economy.
Under the Sirleaf administration, over US$16 billion in investment agreements have been signed between government and foreign investors.
