Nimba County Superintendent Fong Zuagele is appealing to the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) to allow the participation of the local authorities in the country’s forest sector reform.

Zuagele said the chiefs and elders have influence over their various communities and could make informed decisions in the governance of the Liberian forest.
He observed that a flexible FDA should begin its policy-making from rural communities, involving the locals in the decision-making process, especially in the forest sector.

He made the statement at a day-long forum organized by the FDA on the Management and Preservation of the Liberian Forest and its Resources held
at the Nimba County Community College in Sanniquellie recently.

Zuagele, however, lauded FDA for efforts made in the management of the Liberian forest after years of violence and abuse of the National Parks and their species.
