Reigning Liberian First Division Champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) have qualified to the next round of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League following

a 1-0 win against Ghanaian Champions Asante Kotoko at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia on Sunday. BYC qualified on the “Away Goal” rule as the first leg of the fixture ended 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana last Sunday.

The fierce encounter on Sunday was witnessed by thousands of Liberians and some Ghanaians living in Liberia who filled the 10,000 capacity Antoinette Tubman Stadium. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, along with the United States Ambassador to Liberia and several Cabinet Ministers and officials of government, showed up to give support to the Blue Boys.

Substitute Striker Blama(?) Nimley scored the crucial goal BYC needed to progress following a sleek heel flicker from the talismanic creative midfielder Isaac Popo in the 85th minute. The Porcupines Warriors, who struggled all through the game to adjust to touches on the artificial turf and the avalanche of attacks from the home side, had neither time, energy nor game plan to respond to a late stunner.

BYC will face Sewe Sport de San-Pedro of Cote d’Ivoire in the next round bringing to two (along with Red Lions who were awarded the points) the number of teams representing Liberia in the second phase of Africa’s most elite inter-club tournament.
