Minister's Profile

Appointed in December 2006, Minister Laurence Konmla Bropleh is the Minister of Information, Culture & Tourism and the Chief Spokesperson of the Government of Liberia.

He is an acclaimed internationalist whose exemplary diplomatic career and statesmanship has made marks in the corridors of the United Nations and development agencies. Prior to becoming Liberia’s Information Minister, Dr. Bropleh served in several capacities including,  as Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2003-2006 for the World Council Churches, and commissioner of the Churches on International Affairs, in New York and Geneva.  

During his stay at the United Nations, he served as a member of the Security Council working group of non-governmental organization and advisor to member organizations on emerging political, economic and social trends and approaches taking into account United Nations Resolution, helping to build the capacity of fifteen local and regional member organizations in Africa.

He also chaired the expert working group on justice and reconciliation in Africa for the international steering committee of the faith and ethic network for the international criminal court which has produced a manual on justice and reconciliation for use by governments and NGOs in eighteen African countries.

From 2000-2003, Dr. Bropleh served as Director of African Initiatives. Before ascending to Director of African Initiatives, he served as a lecturer on peace building, leadership and governance at the African University in Zimbabwe. Dr. Bropleh served for three years as Regional Executive Secretary for Sub-Saharan Africa.

From 1991-1997, Dr. Bropleh served as pastor of the United Methodist Church in the United States. During his stewardship, the Methodist pastor managed an annual fundraising rally that netted to over $2.5 million dollars in five years for development and relief works on the continent of Africa.

Dr. Bropleh holds a holds a doctorate in Theology with emphasis in International Affairs and International Development and conflict resolution from Wesley Theological Seminary and American University in Washington DC in 1994 and 2000 respectively.

He earned his BBSPA with honors in human resource management and global policy from Crown College, Tacoma, Washington.

As a professor, diplomat and now statesman, Dr. Bropleh has delivered several papers at both national and international conferences including the paper: “Peace Education: an imperative for sustainable peace and development."

In 2000, he published “Strangers in their own homeland: the case of African refugees," Wesleyan Press.

In September 2009, Dr. Bropleh was elected Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee of the World EXPO 2010 to be held in Shanghai, China.  He is also the Commissioner General for Liberia for the World EXPO 2010.

Dr. Bropleh serves on several boards and commissions  in Liberia. He is the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), a commissioner on the National Population Commission, as well as a commissioner and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Aids Commission, among others.
